Yahoo Messenger Hacks You Always Wanted To Know

Most of us know about the release of Yahoo Messenger newer version 9 and its new features and might be using it already. So I just want to give some of the Yahoo Messenger hacks you always wanted.

Yahoo Messenger Offline Installer:

Everyone who uses Yahoo Messenger will always think of having offline installer, whether he wants to backup or distribute to his friends or to install faster (we know that Yahoo always came with a online installer first and the time taken to install on your system, especially those having low internet connection). Download these offline installers.

Remove or disable Yahoo Messenger Ads and Yahoo Insider popup:

If you have seen it or not there have been change in the ads behavior from pervious Yahoo Messenger (ie., Version 8). Some ads are good looking and when you hover your mouse, you can see ads dimensions are increased to give you better view.

If you think these ads annoy you in some way then use this trick to remove or disable them from messenger. credit - Digital life.

  1. Click Start > Run > type regedit and press ENTER.
  2. Navigate to the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\pager\Locale

  3. In the right pane, locate a value named Enable Messenger Ad with default value as 1. Set the value to 0.
  4. Restart Yahoo! Messenger 9.0.

I think everybody have some reason to block Yahoo Insider popup and I am one of them. Unless you want to read local news headlines or other things that appear on Yahoo Insider.

We can stop Yahoo Insider from appearing and this is added as a built in option in Yahoo Messenger. I think this is not known to most users, think of me, since we simply avoid by closing the Yahoo Insider popup as it appears.

  1. Open Yahoo Messenger, click on Messenger menu.
  2. Go to Preferences, in the General Category uncheck Show Yahoo! Messenger Insider.
  3. Click Apply and then OK.

Yahoo Web Messenger:

The name itself says everything, no download or installation required, all you need is Adobe Flash Player. Simply chat with your friends from your web browser. You can go for Web Messenger incase if you are using public system(I think public systems have flash player installed, because most of the company website use flash contents) or any other system that can connect to Internet and which doesn't have Yahoo Messenger installed. If you have different accounts in different instant messaging services, you can go for Meebo.

Yahoo's Pingbox for Bloggers and Website owners:

Like the popular Shoutmix and other third party web site add-ons that allow blog owners to have a small chat box embedded in their blogs, so they chat directly with their blog visitors. Yahoo Pingbox similar Shoutmix, was released along with Messenger, which can also be embedded on any website or blog. Pingbox allows visitor to chat anonymously with blog author.

Pingbox allows you to change its color, to suit your blog and themes, you can customize as you like. Start create your own Yahoo Pingbox for your blog.

There had been already a service for displaying online status like Yahoo online presence, and Google Badge.
